Maintenance is necessary for all equipment. DTF is no exception. Regular cleaning is recommended to ensure smooth operation and optimal print quality. Just a few blocked nozzles can produce stripey colors and other print defects.
We advise a manual clean of the wiper, caps, and undercarriage after each print run and two auto clean cycles before you start a new printing. Total maintenance for direct to film printers should only take 10-15 minutes per day
Yes, it is possible, but NOT recommended unless you've thoroughly profiled your direct to film printers.
The secret to producing bright, vivid DTF prints is the printer, inks, and film working in harmony. We achieve this by profiling our printers to our inks and films to provide amazing, bright, and vivid transfers.
We do not recommend using DTF inks in a DTG printer. DTF inks like Ultra Color Max are not formulated to work in a DTG printer.
Yes, you will need to prepare your art with design software. These programs are not included with DTF systems. You will also need RIP software and ICC profiles, which should be included with all direct to film printers.

DTF is extremely durable when the inks are cured properly and the heat press application is done correctly. Our transfers are tested at 10 hot washes/tumble dry with no visible deterioration.
That being said, custom DTF transfer printing has a general washfast durability rating of over 100 laundry cycles, according to Keypoint Intelligence. Therefore, we recommend cold washing for optimal longevity for both the transfer and garment.
The feel would depend on the type of adhesive powder and film you use. The art and production process can make a big difference on the softness of the print as well.
Our SLM (Super Low Melt) adhesive is one of the softest DTF powders on the market and has exceptional stretch and return properties. It has a better feel than traditional vinyl and heat transfers, which makes it ideal for custom DTF transfer.
DTF printers love to print and leaving the printers idle for a long time can cause several issues. For instance, remaining idle can cause the printheads to dry and become blocked, and white ink may separate in the lines. Fixing these issues in your printer can be costly.
If you plan to not use the printer for more than two days, we recommend wet capping (cleaning solution is put in the caps where the printheads rest). This will protect the printheads from drying up and, in the right environment, can preserve the printer for up to two weeks. However, the printer should be left on so that the ink circulation system can run.
For longer inactivity, we recommend flushing the ink lines and heads.
